Rwanda Law Reform Commission Hosts Delegation from Somalia's Upper House Women Caucus
On January 30th 2024, the Rwanda Law Reform Commission had the honor of welcoming the Women Caucus of the Upper House of Somalia. The purpose of their visit was to gain insights into Rwanda's legislative processes and understand the day-to-day operations and responsibilities of the Commission.
The delegation from the Upper House Women Caucus of Somalia arrived in Rwanda with a keen interest in learning about the significant contributions of the Rwandan parliament and the representation of women within it. Their objectives included delving into the management and scheduling of legislative processes, comprehending the mechanisms that led to Rwanda's impressive 64% women quota in parliament, understanding the integration of women's rights within the legal framework, and acquiring insights into drafting bills aimed at enhancing women's representation in parliament, among other pertinent topics.
During their visit to the Rwanda Law Reform Commission, the delegation was provided with comprehensive insights into Rwanda's legislative procedures, the voting processes for laws, and the consideration of women's rights during the drafting of legislation. The session facilitated engaging discussions wherein the Somalian delegation shared the legislative processes in their country, allowing for fruitful comparisons with those of Rwanda.
